Y'ALL! I'd like to introduce you to my newest new favorite thing - glue on nails! Ok, ok, so I'm old enough to know this fad isn't new, but it's about time that I jump on this train. To be honest, I have never been one to paint my nails or do anything to them for that matter. This is for 3 reasons: First, my nails grow pretty fine on their own and I like having low maintenance nails. Second, I HATE chipped nails because that's embarrassing and hideous. Nail polishes have always let down (yes, even gel nail polish). I also feel like I'm always doing something with my hands - diy project, dishes etc. that make them more prone to chip. I know what you're thinking: why don't you just go get them done professionally? Well that brings me to the third reason I don't do anything to my nails - getting your nails done professionally costs too much money! I mean, I have enough bills every month, I dont need to add nails to that list, lol. Ya girl is THRIFTY, okayyy! I need to save all my money for traveling LOL.
However, lately I've really been desiring to have my nails look a little more feminine. I was inspired to give glue on nails a try by a fellow blogger (shout out to blogger @narcisam08). I headed straight to the Dollar General (yes I said DOLLAR GENERAL) and bought some Kiss nails, french manicure style and Kiss megahold pink nail glue. For my nails I also added my secret ingredient, which is a gel-like top coat.
What I love about the Kiss french manicure nails that they look so realistic! What I love about them is that they have this cool looking white moon shape at the nail bed to make them look more natural. Guess how much these nails cost - $3.00! A thrifty girl's dream! This pack comes with 24 nails total in various sizes. The benefit of that is that you can try different sizes to see which ones fit best, and if you chip or break one, you can have a few back up nails to replace them.
I got the corresponding Kiss Mega Hold pink nail glue to go with it. Please believe me when I say that this glue is super strong. It's recommended to put glue both on the nail and on the nail bed before applying. I've been wearing my nails for a few days now and they're on there pretty snuggly. The key to glue on nails is really the quality of the glue, and so far so good! BTW, the glue was only $1.50!
Now for my secret ingredient: Gel-like top coat. I got this bottle at Sally Beauty a few months ago to apply above regular nail polish to help it last longer. I decided to apply this to my glue on nails to keep the color from chipping. I also like how it gives the nails a shiny/slick look and how it makes the nails look thicker, just like having them professionally done in acrylic or gel. In terms of price, I believe I paid about $3 for this bottle.
Here's the finished product! I love my nails! I think a routine like this is more my speed. It's low maintenance and affordable, yet super chic. Even if I decided to change my nails every 2 weeks, I would only be paying $6 a month on nails and buying a new bottle of glue every couple of months. Those are numbers I can work with.
The Kiss brand nails come in a variety of styles and patterns. Next, I'd like to try pre-painted nails, and maybe even some more pointy nails. We'll see!
Until the next adventure,
