4 Reasons Why You Should Visit Bonaire

If you’ve never been to Bonaire, you’re missing out. Sometimes when I rant and rave about how much I love Bonaire, many people’s first reaction is: where is that? Bonaire is a beautiful Dutch island off the coast of Venezuela and a municipality of the Netherlands. It’s one third of what is known as the ABC islands (Aruba and Curaçao being the “A” and the “C”, respectively). I visited Bonaire during Christmas and had the most amazing time. Here’s why you should book your next getaway to Bonaire:

1. Bonaire’s sleepy island vibe offers serenity and the ultimate chill getaway.

Unlike nearby Aruba, Bonaire is relatively undercommercialized, which means that you won’t see huge hotel chains or be overwhelmed with tons of other tourists. But don’t worry, Bonaire is not lacking in luxury and comfort. The vibe in Bonaire is super relaxed and unrushed; when you’re there, it almost feels like you’re in an exclusive destination. Bonaire is perfect for people who are seeking serenity and relaxation, and who like to explore and adventure at a slower pace.

2. Bonaire’s turquoise water is absolutely breathtaking.

I was honestly super impressed with the water in Bonaire (and that’s saying a lot coming from this beach-bougie West Indian). I have never seen so many shades of blue in one place. The water views were mesmerizing at every turn and it was even better swimming in it.

3. Bonaire is a world-renown destination for diving and snorkeling

Bonaire’s Marine Park is an underwater paradise that draws divers from all over the world. The island’s coral reef is protected and has hundreds of species of fish. If you don’t scuba dive, snorkeling is a great option too. I went snorkeling while I was there and was amazed at all the beautiful fish I saw!

4. You’ll eat some of the most delicious seafood

There’s nothing better than sitting down at a seafood restaurant only to hear the waiter say they caught the tuna you’re eating earlier that day. I ate some of the best seafood I’d ever eaten in Bonaire. There are several great seafood restaurants to choose from, and one of my favs was It Rains Fishes. Check it out when you visit Bonaire!
